Areas of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property around W. Kerr Scott Reservoir earlier left open amid the coronavirus situation were closed Friday.

Dave Connolly, chief of public affairs at the Corps' Wilmington District headquarters in Wilmington, said all trails, boat ramps, gated areas and bathrooms at W. Kerr Scott Reservoir are closed until further notice.

This includes the gate at the southern end of W. Kerr Scott Dam and the gate at the entrance to the spillway area below the dam.

The visitor's center, campgrounds, swimming areas and certain other areas around the reservoir were closed earlier

People were still fishing on the reservoir Saturday.

“The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has responsibility to ensure the health and safety of our workforce, contractors, partners and the communities we serve. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult and unprecedented time,” said Connolly.
