The Wilkes County Library in downtown North Wilkesboro and the Traphill Library on Traphill Road are beginning “contactless curbside service” next week after being closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Curbside service hours for the Wilkes County Library will be 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. They will be 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday for the Traphill Library.

Books or other materials can be requested by placing a hold on them by calling the Wilkes County Library at 336-838-2818, the Traphill Library at 336-863-3563, by sending an email to wilkesreference@arlibrary.org or by going to https://www.arlibrary.org/wilkes

To do so on the library website, click “Access Account” near the top of the home page and follow the directions. Available books and other materials can be determined by clicking “Search Catalog,” which is near “Access Account.” Click “Place Hold” for the desired books or other materials.

Wilkes County Librarian Aimee James said people who aren’t familiar with this online process can call or email the library for assistance.

According to instructions on the library website, a library representative will call when holds are ready to pick up. Go to the pull-through area in the lower parking lot of the Wilkes County Library to pick up materials there or the Traphill Library parking lot. Staff will place requested books or other materials on table outside the Wilkes County or Traphill library entrance.

“We anticipate partial reopening to the public in a few weeks. Although we have missed our customers, and will be happy to see you all again, until such a time as it is safe, the number of people in our library buildings will be limited, and services will be limited as well,” said James.

“We will encourage folks to ‘grab and go’ – to come in, choose materials, check them out, and go home to enjoy them. No seating will be available in the buildings to discourage lingering. Computer use will be limited to one hour once a day. We are not offering programming or opening our meeting rooms to the public for the foreseeable future,” she said.

“Our buildings are off limits to those experiencing the symptoms of COVID-19. We are asking everyone to abide by the 3 W’s: Wear a mask, Wash your hands and Wait six feet apart from other people.”
