The 33rd COVID-19-related death of a Wilkes County resident was announced Friday by the Wilkes County Health Department.

The person, in his/her 80s, died at Wilkes Medical Center on Thursday.

According to the health department, the death was associated with an outbreak at Westwood Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wilkesboro.

As of Friday morning, Wilkes County had 1,143 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 1,063 recoveries, and 13 hospitalized. At 11:50 a.m. Friday, the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services reported 191,019 cases, 904 currently hospitalized and 3,207 deaths related to COVID-19 statewide.
