The Wilkes County Health Department reported the COVID-19-related deaths of two more Wilkes residents on Wednesday.

The total for Wilkes now is 28.

One of the most recent two was a person in his/her 70s who died Sept. 7 and the other was a person in his/her 80s who died Sept. 4.

Wilkes Health Director Rachel Willard said both had underlying health conditions and died from complications associated with the virus. Willard said one died at a hospital in Winston-Salem and the other person wasn’t hospitalized.
