Chosen to attend N.C. Governor's School

Students chosen to attend North Carolina Governor’s School

Three Wilkes County high school juniors were chosen to attend the Governor’s School of North Carolina this past summer. Governor’s School is a five-week summer residential program for academically gifted students held on the campuses of High Point University or Meredith College. They were recognized during the Oct. 4 Wilkes school board meeting. Wilkes School Superintendent Mark Byrd stands with the students, now seniors, who were chosen. From left, they are Vivian Nguyen from Wilkes Early College High School, Sophia Pontzer from Wilkes Central High School and Caroline Langston from Wilkes Central. Langston’s area of focus was English, Pontzer’s was natural sciences and Nguyen’s was English.
