Classes in the Wilkes County Schools will start on Aug. 23 and end on May 25 in 2021-22 as a result of a calendar approved by the Wilkes Board of Education on Feb. 1.

It will be a 164-day calendar, the same as other Wilkes school calendars in recent years.

In the 2020-21 (current) calendar, classes started Aug. 17 and are scheduled to end May 26.

Other highlights of next year’s school calendar include:

• first grading period ends Oct. 20 and the second grading period starts Oct. 25;

• students will be out of school from Dec. 17 through Jan. 4 for Christmas and New Year’s holiday, with some teacher work days;

• second grading period ends Jan. 13 and third grading period starts Jan. 18;

• third grading period ends March 18 and fourth grading period starts March 23.

• students will be out of school from April 15-22 for Easter and annual leave.
