North Wilkes 44, West Caldwell 0
Josh Martin scored four times, and the North Wilkes defense pitched a shutout, as the Vikings beat visiting West Caldwell 44-0 Friday night in Hays.
Martin hauled in three touchdown passes, including a 59-yard score in the second quarter, and one touchdown on the ground. All the passes came from quarterback L.J. Hendren, who also found Josh Bare for a first-half score as the Vikings built a 31-0 lead at intermission.
The Vikings defense started the game with a safety at the 11:27 mark of the first quarter, after West Caldwell's David Denison misplayed the opening kickoff and gave the Warriors possession at the 1. Devin Roberts and Jordan Grimes tackled Fred Horton two plays later to set the tone for the swarming North defense.
North, 1-0, will next travel to South Stokes, while the Warriors, 0-1, play at South Caldwell next Friday.
West Wilkes 26, Mitchell 15
Chance Huffman punched in two touchdowns and Adam Goulds added a third for West Wilkes in the second half on Friday as the Blackhawks bounced back from a 15-7 first-half deficit to defeat Mitchell 26-15.
South Stokes 51, East Wilkes 50
South Stokes scored nearly at will. So did East Wilkes.
But the Sauras scored last to escape with a one-point win Friday night in Ronda.
Jacquan Martin scored his sixth touchdown of the game with seven seconds to play, then added the two-point conversion to give the Sauras their only lead.
Martin, a senior who rushed for over 2,000 yards a season ago, had 168 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns on kickoff returns. Martin had 343 all-purpose yards.
The Cardinals scored on their first two possessions and led 30-13 at the half.
Senior Jathan Sales rushed for 245 yards and scored three touchdowns. Levi Ray—who rushed for 122 yards—Andrew Nance and Zach West also had rushing touchdowns, and West threw a touchdown pass to Austin Pearson.
North Iredell 13, Wilkes Central 0
The North Iredell Raiders got a game-high 126 rushing yards and a score from Nick Malavet and held Wilkes Central to 138 total yards (all rushing) in a 13-0 victory in Olin on Friday night.
Brian Ellis scored a 13-yard touchdown on North Iredell's first possession of the game. The Raiders also committed 14 penalties for 122 yards.
Victor Williams ran for 101 yards for the Eagles, who will travel to Hibriten next Friday.
North Iredell will play former MVAC member Forbush.
