Mountain Valley 1A/2A All-Conference honors nearly 50

There were nearly 50 athletes honored as the Mountain Valley 1A/2A Athletic Conference announced its All-Conference lists this week.

Starmount swept the top honors, including coach of the year, offensive player of the year and defensive player of the year.

Wilkes Central had 13 athletes make the first team. West Wilkes had five make the first team. East Wilkes’ athletes earned eight spots on the team.

Wilkes Central had six players tabbed for the honorable mention.

Five West Wilkes players made the honorable mention.

East had five on the honorable mention. North Wilkes had seven players make honorable mention.

Support helped ease impact of bad weather

The 38th annual Brushy Mountain Apple Festival has come and gone. It was the worst weather for the festival in its history, but due to the dedication of the members of our club, our vendors, musicians, dancers, suppliers, and the employees of the Town of North Wilkesboro, the festival went on.

Thank you for printing the photo of Roxie Tedder on the front porch of her home on page 15 of the Brushy Mountain Apple Festival Program Guide. She was one who earned money by stringing tobacco pouches at home during the Great Depression.
