Agnes Benton, 85, dies at her home; funeral Wednesday

Agnes Viola Porter Benton, 85, of Benton Lane, North Wilkesboro, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011 at her home.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with the Rev. Larry Adams and the Rev. Paul Hugger officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park.

The family will be at the funeral home from noon until 1:30 Wednesday afternoon prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be: Phillip Benton, Tommy Pennington, Ronnie Anglin Jr., Earl Benton, Scotty Anglin, Eric Benton, Matthew Pennell, Ronnie Anderson and Michael Pennington. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Foster, Wesley Handy, David Foster, Jake Handy and Jacob Smith.

Mrs. Benton was born June 20, 1926 in Wilkes County to Arville Monroe and Ada Perry Porter. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warner Hardin Benton; a son, Earl (Ted) Eugene Benton; a sister, Pansy Waddell; and a brother, Paul Edward Porter.

She is survived by eight daughters, Shirley Benton, Glenda Anglin and husband, Ronnie, Phyllis Foster and husband, Bobby, and Brenda Anderson, all of North Wilkesboro, Gladys Smith and husband, Danny, and Kathy Handy and husband, Paul, all of Millers Creek, Carolyn Pennell and husband, Dean, of Locust, and Sherry Recinos of Silver Spring, Md.; one son, Arville Edward Benton and wife, Gayle, of Millers Creek; two sisters, Lessie Rhoades of North Wilkesboro, and Joyce Nethery of Coatesville, Pa.; 28 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Hospice of Wilkes, 1908 West Park Drive, North Wilkesboro, N.C. 28659.
