The Wilkes Sheriff’s Department has arrested one of three suspects for the theft of steel I-beams worth $600.
According to a sheriff’s department report, Christopher Shepherd, 33, of Green Brook Drive in Millers Creek is charged with stealing the I-beams from a site on N.C. 16 North in Millers Creek on Friday.
Wade James Miller, identified as the victim, reported that he saw three men loading steel I-beams belonging to him into a red Toyota with no tailgate.
According to the sheriff’s department report, Miller went to Wilkes Steel in North Wilkesboro and found out that the suspects had already sold the I-beams.
The report said Shepherd was driving the Toyota when he sold the I-beams to Wilkes Steel. The license plate number of the vehicle was identified.
Shepherd was in the Wilkes County Jail at press time with a $6,500 secured bond.
According to jail records, he is charged with larceny, second degree trespass and obtaining property by false pretense.
The sheriff’s department report said the other two suspects haven’t been identified.
