A motorcycle operator died Sunday night as a result of injuries sustained in a wreck earlier in the day on U.S. 421 about six miles southeast of Ronda, according to Trooper R.R. Walker of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
David Ray Koch, 63, of Summerfield, operator of a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle, was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem by Wilkes EMS for treatment of multiple trauma, including head and internal injuries, Walker said.
The wreck happened around 2:45 p.m. and Koch died about 11 p.m., the trooper said.
Koch was traveling east when he lost control of the motorcycle after the rear tire had a blowout, Walker said. The motorcycle went off on the right, overturned and ejected Koch onto the shoulder of the four-lane highway.
Damage to the motorcycle was estimated by the trooper at $3,300.
