Annual Fly-In at Wilkes County Airport is Sept. 21

The annual Fly-In at the Wilkes County Airport on Airport Road in Hays, organized by the Mountain View Ruritan Club, is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 21.

In addition to a variety of aircraft and classic cars on display, the event will include airplane rides, food, drinks, live music and paratroopers jumping from a plane at 11 a.m. and noon.

The Wilkes County Flying Club will hold a drawing for one free ticket for an airplane ride every hour for five hours.

Devin Huie and Friends will provide live music and other entertainment.

There is no cost for admission.

The case in which a former Wilkes Community College division chairman was charged with being paid about $5,000 after claiming he taught classes last spring that didn’t exist is the latest in continuing education improprieties at community colleges statewide over the years.

New hand signals

Starting this school year, Wilkes County school bus drivers are using hand signals to tell students when it’s safe to cross the roads. They received formal training in use of the hand signals last week.

As I was going through old pictures this past week, I came across some of our chocolate cocker spaniel, “Bunny,” who died in 2010, actually on 10-10-10. She was a gift to my children from the Easter Bunny in 2001, thus her nickname, “Bunny,” and her registered name, “Chocolate Easter Surprise.”
