A Wilkes County man died as a result of injuries sustained in a head-on collision Monday morning on N.C. 16 in Alexander County, near the Wilkes County line.

The victim was Johnnie Edmond (Eddie) Pollock, 50, of Sparta Road, North Wilkesboro. He was airlifted to the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he died.

According to Trooper R.V. McGee, the wreck occurred at 6:50 a.m. 8.4 miles north of Taylorsville. Pollock, who was parts manager for Paramount Automotive Group in Hickory, was traveling south in a 2002 Mazda when his car crossed the centerline and struck the northbound 1993 Toyota of Carrie Denise Moretz, 23, of McAlpin Lane, Taylorsville.

Ms. Moretz was transported by Alexander EMS to Wilkes Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
