Rev. and Mrs. Carl Otto Boggs celebrate golden anniversary

The Rev. Carl Otto Boggs Sr. and Annie Ruth Boggs celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 13, 2015. They were married at the home of the late Rev. Johnny Dancy, who officiated their wedding on March 13, 1965.

Rev. and Mrs. Boggs have two daughters, two sons, three grandsons, four granddaughters and two late grandsons. They also have one great-grandson, three great-granddaughters and one late great-granddaughter.

Their children, Rebecca Sweat, David Boggs, Carl Boggs Jr., Ellen Boggs Shepherd and their oldest granddaughter, Melissa Sweat Stone, held a 50th anniversary party at Fair View Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on March 14, 2015, at 2 p.m.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Eller honored on 50th wedding anniversary

Bill and Linda Eller of Ferguson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception in their honor in the fellowship hall of Beaver Creek Baptist Church.

The event was given by their children and grandchildren.

The Ellers were surrounded by family, friends and food.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson to celebrate 60th anniversary

Earnest and Juliann Johnson will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 12, 2015.

The Johnsons have four children, Brenda, Terry, Dennis and Greg Johnson.

They also have seven grandchildren, including three grandsons and four granddaughters, and nine great-grandchildren.

Albert and Reba Wiles celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner in their honor on Feb. 6, 2015, at Golden Corral, Wilkesboro.

The couple celebrated with their children, Gary Wiles and Melissa Wiles Wyatt, Mrs. Wiles’ mother, their five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and other friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Wiles were married Feb. 6, 1965, in Sparta.

Mr. and Mrs. Garry Spears honored on their 50th anniversary on Nov. 22

Garry and Doris Spears of Old Brickyard Road, North Wilkesboro celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a surprise party in their honor on Nov. 22, 2014, at the Brushy Mountain Smokehouse. Guests included friends and family members of the couple. Hostesses were Gayle Melton and Wynette Adams.

The couple has one daughter, Wynette Adams, and husband, John. They also have two grandsons, Zachary and Nathan Shumate.

Mrs. Spears is retired from Wilkes County Schools. Mr. Spears is retired from Vulcan Materials Rock Quarry.

Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Jennings celebrate 60th anniversary

Dewey and Vada Sue Jennings celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014. They were married Aug. 25, 1954 in Wilkes County.

Mr. and Mrs. Jennings have two children, Kenny Jennings of Wilkesboro and Robin Jennings of Millers Creek.

They are retired poultry farmers for Tyson Foods.

Gary and Donna Handy celebrate 50th wedding anniversary on November 25

Gary and Donna Handy of Cabin Creek Road, Hays celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 25, 2014. They were married the day before Thanksgiving in 1964, in the home of Mr. Handy’s father, Clyde Handy.

Mr. and Mrs. Handy’s children are Steve, and wife, Karen Handy, and Keith, and wife, Jennie Handy, all of Wilkes County. They also have three grandchildren, Dallas, Hannah-Lee and Houston.

The Handys are members of Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Wood celebrate 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 2

Clyde Wood and Mary Hayes Wood celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception in their honor on Nov. 2, 2014 at Dehart Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

 The event was given by their daughter, Martha Wood Mathis, and husband, Joey, their granddaughter, Danielle Mathis Griffith, and grandson, Joel Mathis. The couple have one great-granddaughter, Sadie Griffith.

Martha Mathis provided a music video with photographs of the couple from the past 50 years.

Billings couple celebrates 70th wedding anniversary

Claude and Betty Billings of Wilkesboro, residents of Rose Glen, are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary today, Nov. 14, 2014. They were married Nov. 14, 1944, in South Carolina.

Mr. and Mrs. Billings’ children are Sandy and Tony Clark of Matthews and Kathy and Derek Poarch of Lenoir.

They also have seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Otto Rhodes Jr. and Geraldine Brooks Rhodes celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception in their honor on Oct. 12, 2014, at the Bethel Baptist Church Vision Center.

The event was given by the couple’s daughters, Lisa Rhodes Hall, and husband, James, of Ferguson, and Denise Rhodes Wilson and husband, Rick, of Hays.

Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes also have five grandchildren, Joshua Hall, Nathan Hall, Elizabeth McCann, Rebekah Wilson and Reece Wilson.

Mr. and Mrs. Ashley celebrate anniversary

James and Judy Ashley recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, with a family meal at Golden Corral, Wilkesboro.

A two-tiered anniversary cake was provided by Lorie, Anna and Stephen Kerhoulas. The couple was presented an anniversary cake knife and server to honor their 50 years of marriage.

Mr. and Mrs. Ashley were married July 31, 1964. They have four children, Randy Ashley, Jamie Beamon, Lorie Kerhoulas and Jimmy Ashley. They also have six grandchildren, Jessica Ashley, Martin and Jacob Beamon, Anna and Stephen Kerhoulas and Nicholas Ashley.

Mr. and Mrs. Benny Wiles celebrate 48th anniversary

Benny and Linda Wiles, Wiles Ridge Road, Hays, celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014. The couple has four children, Derek Wiles, Rodney (Pam) Wiles, Kristie Hawkins and Kelley Wiles. They also have three grandchildren, Makayla Brooke Wiles, Autumn Lynne Brinegar and Braylyn Gray Hawkins.

The couple was married Oct. 22, 1966. Mr. Wiles is a retired Tyson Foods poultry farmer and a United States Army Veteran. Mrs. Wiles is a homemaker and enjoys playing the piano.

Mr. and Mrs. John Kennedy honored on 50th anniversary

John and Carol Johnson Kennedy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at the Mountain View Ruritan Building in Hays.

 About 100 friends and family members attended to help them celebrate. The Kennedys were married at the bride’s home in Hays by Lester Johnson, father of the bride.

The bride was born to Lester and Eulala Church Johnson. The groom was born to Claude and Maude Warren Kennedy.

Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Shumate celebrate 50th anniversary

C.M. Shumate and Lois Ann Hawkins Shumate celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 19, 2014.

They celebrated with a trip to the Great Smoky Mountains during their anniversary weekend, and then were honored at a celebration with friends and family at Benton Hall, North Wilkesboro, on July 26. Hosts were their two sons.

The Shumates’ sons are Michael Shumate and wife, Loren, of Raleigh and Graham Shumate of North Wilkesboro. They also have five grandchildren.

Maurice and Gladys Miller of Haymeadow Road, Hays, celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014.

The couple has three children, Linda (Benny) Wiles of Hays, Louise (the late Norris) McGlamery and Dean (Brenda) Miller of North Wilkesboro.

 They also have seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lyon are honored on 50th anniversary

Joe and Idesta Reynolds Lyon celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, in the fellowship building of Austin Baptist Church, surrounded by family and friends. The couple was married Aug. 23, 1964 at Benham Baptist Church, with the Rev. Amos Lyon officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Lyon’s children are Keith Lyon (and wife Kathy) of Elkin; Angela Johnson (and husband Greg) of Waxhaw; and the late Bobby Joe Lyon, who died in 1989. Their eight grandchildren are Brett and Ethan Lyon of Elkin; the late Kathryn Nicole Johnson, who died in 1991; Bethany, Luke, Anna, Timothy and Caroline Johnson of Waxhaw.

Mr. Lyon retired from Sprint in 1999, after 38 years of employment. Mrs. Lyon is a homemaker. They are devoted parents and grandparents who enjoy spending time with their family and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. James Bishop celebrate 45th anniversary

James and Donna Hincher Bishop celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary Sept. 29, 2014. They were married Sept. 29, 1969.

The Bishops are both retired. They have two sons, James Bishop Jr. and Jason Bishop, both of Olin. They also have four granddaughters.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Watkins to celebrate 50th anniversary

Richard and Ann Cockerham Watkins will celebrate 50 years of marriage on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014. They were married on Sept. 26, 1964 at Rickard’s Chapel AME Zion Church.

Mr. Watkins retired from the Town of Wilkesboro where he worked for 21 years. He also served on the Wilkesboro Fire Department for 23 years. He is a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church and is a part of the Men In Christ Service Ministry.

Mrs. Watkins retired from Wilkes County Schools after 32-1/2 years as a librarian at Ronda-Clingman Elementary School. She is a member of Rickard’s Chapel AME Zion Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Brown celebrate golden anniversary

Robert Ray Brown and Bobbie Jean Walsh Brown of Wilkesboro celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception in their honor in the fellowship hall of Shady Grove Baptist Church, on Aug. 10, 2014. The event was given by the women of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

The couple has two children, Alan Junior Brown and Barbara Gail Brown Church, both of Wilkesboro, and one grandson, Noah Gabriel Sparks.

Mr. Brown was a carpenter and is now retired. Mrs. Brown worked in the textile industry and is also retired.

Robert and Linda Ann Huffman Handy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception in their honor on Aug. 17, 2014, at Baptist Home Church Family Life Center. Hosts included members of the couple’s family.

The Handys have two sons, Robert Handy Jr. and wife, Janet Caudill Handy, of Wilkesboro, and Scott Handy and wife, Bobbie Sebastian Handy, of North Wilkesboro. They also have four grandchildren, Evan Handy, Lauren Handy, Kara Forester and Korey Forester.

Upon their arrival, the couple was presented with a corsage and boutonniere of ivory roses with ribbons trimmed in gold edging, commemorating the occasion.

Coy and Freda Herron York of Roaring River will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 25, 2014, with a private family event.

The Yorks have two children, a daughter, Cindy Jefferson of Knotts Island, and a son, Alvin York of South Mills. They also have eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. York is retired from Food Lion and Mr. York is also retired, after serving 30 years in the United States Navy.

Mr. and Mrs. David DeGruchy celebrate 50th anniversary

David William and Freda Mueller DeGruchy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married Aug. 8, 1964. at First United Methodist Church in Westminster, Md. They celebrated with special meals, given by family and friends, at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock and Harvest Grill at Shelton Vineyards in Dobson.

The couple’s children are Carole DeGruchy of Seattle, Wash. and David (D.W.) DeGruchy Jr. of Deep Gap.

Mr. DeGruchy retired from the Federal Aviation Administration Andrews Air Force Base in Suitland, Md. Mrs. DeGruchy retired from teaching in St. Mary’s County in Maryland. Mrs. DeGruchy teaches clogging and line dance classes in Wilkes and Alexander counties.

Bonnie Russell, daughter of the couple, and Wayne, her husband, hosted the event.

Mr. and Mrs. Layell have four daughters, Brenda Scott of Ronda, and husband Phil, Janice Shermer of State Road, Connie Harris of Ronda and husband, Craigg, and Bonnie Russell of Ronda, and husband, Wayne.

Herbert Hardin “Tot” and Hilda Christen Church of Windy Ridge Road, North Wilkesboro celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a gathering of close family members and friends on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at 6:30 p.m., in the fellowship hall of Baptist Home Baptist Church.

Hosts were their son, Michael Church, his wife, Debbie Church, and their granddaughter, Faith Elizabeth Church, of North Wilkesboro.

Mr. Church retired from Tyson Foods and is a cattle farmer. Mrs. Church is a homemaker.

Ernest and Brenda Pardue of Ronda were married on July 18, 1964, at Little Elkin Baptist Church in Ronda, N.C.

The couple’s children are Tim and wife, Lisa of Ronda and Tracy Wall and husband, Randy of Ronda. They also have two grandchildren, Jacob and Kayla Pardue of Ronda.

Mr. Pardue is retired from Textile Inc. and Mrs. Pardue is retired from Lowe’s Companies.

Luvern and Mary Tedder of North Wilkesboro, were honored at a surprise party in celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, Sunday, July 6, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Wilkesboro.

Hosts for the event were Alisha Tedder Anglin, their daughter, Phillip Tedder, their son and Salem Rogers and Autumn Hart, their granddaughters.

The couple have two children, Phillip Tedder and Alisha Anglin of North Wilkesboro, three grandchildren, Amber Dunn, Autumn Hart and Salem Rogers and two great-grandchildren, Zoe Dunn and Jadon Dunn.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Key Sr. renew marriage vows

Ernest Lee Key Sr. and Linda Wyatt Key celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 14, 2014, by renewing their wedding vows at Haymeadow Baptist Church in Hays.

The renewal service was performed by the couple’s son, Brother Larry Key, and was directed by their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Marlene Key. Their oldest son, Ernest Lee Key III, served as best man. Bridesmaids were Danielle and Brittany Key, granddaughters of the couple. Flower girl was Sarah Richardson, a great-niece.

After the ceremony, the couple enjoyed a time of fellowship with their family, church family and friends, in the church fellowship hall. Guests were served a three-tiered wedding cake, decorated with ribbons and daisies, which was made by their daughter-in-law, Jill Thomasson.

Ira and Aretta Byers Church of Adams Lane, Wilkesboro, will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with a dinner in their honor on July 5, at Cagney’s Restaurant, Wilkesboro, given by their daughters.

The couple’s children are Barbara and Joe Owings of Millers Creek, Chris and Denny Mitchell of Stanley, Suzan and Graham Adams of Charlotte, Sharon and Richard Duncan of Duncan, S.C. and Tina and Joe Sturgill of Moravian Falls. Mr. and Mrs. Church also have 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Church is retired from American Drew Furniture Company. Mrs. Church is a homemaker.

Butch and Betty Walker of North Wilkesboro will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on July 4. They were married July 4, 1964 at the home of the groom’s parents in the Fairplains community.

The Walkers have two daughters, Dawn Walker Dowell and husband, Randy Dowell, and Emily Walker Sebastian and husband, Adam Sebastian.

They also have four grandchildren, Scott Shumate and wife, Natasha Shumate, Jacob Smithey, Zoe Combs and Skye Sebastian, and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Shumate and Dylan Shumate.

Mr. and Mrs. Owens have five children, Ray Owens, Darrell Owens and Mark Owens of North Wilkesboro, Kenny Owens of Wilkesboro and Janet Estep of Moravian Falls and eight grandchildren.

Hostesses were their daughter, Janet Estep and daughter-in-law, Kelly Owens.

Frank and Jane Joines celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception in their honor on May 17, 2014, at Liberty Grove Baptist Church. Hosts were their children, Brian Joines and Deanna Rhoades.

Many of the couple’s friends and family members attended including Mrs. Joines’ sister, Dolores Schott, niece Theresa Schott, nephew Joseph Schott and wife Edie, of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Joines’ brother, Michael Adams and wife, Hearty of Jessup, Md.

Mr. Joines’ niece, Pam King, of Fredericksburg, Va. attended as well as his nephews, Jimmy and Greg Joines, and niece, Teresa Lewis and husband, Jimmy, all of Traphill.

Mr. and Mrs. Hank Poff celebrate 50th anniversary

Harry (Hank) and Janice Poff of Wilkesboro, who were married in Salem, Ohio, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 16, 2014, with a family dinner.

The couple’s children are Wayne (wife Laura) of  Morganton, Drew (wife JacquaLynn) of North Wilkesboro and daughter, Lori Kellogg (husband Steven) of Wilmington, Del. They also have seven grandchildren, three who reside in Delaware, one grandson who resides in New York City, N.Y., one granddaughter in Arlington, Va. and two granddaughters in North Wilkesboro.

Mr. Poff served eight years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and did numerous factory jobs and railroad work for 10 years. In 1993, he retired from civilian government service after 12 years of employment in Marshall, Texas.

Mr. and Mrs. Billings have three children, two sons, Danny and Teddy Billings, both of McGrady, and a daughter, Penny Billings Jarvis of Millers Creek.

They also have seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Marvin Odell “Pete” and Linda Billings Jenkins of North Wilkesboro celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at the Depot Restaurant at Cody Creek in Dobson.

Hostesses for the event were the couple’s family. Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins have two daughters, Tina Galloway and husband, John, and Deana Lovette and husband, Keith, of North Wilkesboro. Mr. Jenkins presented Mrs. Jenkins with a new set of diamond rings. After the dinner, the guests were served a slice of the anniversary cake.

The couple have four grandchildren, Joshua and Hunter Galloway, Kayla Miller and husband, Austin, and Lakyn Lovette; and one great-grandchild, Khloe Lovette.

The Rev. Wiley and Nellie Wagoner Boggs of Jefferson Street, North Wilkesboro will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception in their honor on April 12, 2014, at 2 p.m., at God’s Oasis Church, Jefferson Street, North Wilkesboro.

The couple has two children, Daniel H. Boggs of North Wilkesboro and Mary E. Griffin of Boomer. They also have seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Mr. Boggs is retired from Mitchell Golds in Taylorsville and is pastor of God’s Oasis Church. Mrs. Boggs is retired from Buster Brown.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Reynolds to celebrate 72nd anniversary

Howard and Ruby Laster Reynolds will celebrate their 72nd wedding anniversary on March 14, 2014.

They were married March 14, 1942 in Wilkes County.

The couple has four children, Becky Creed of Ronda, Larry Reynolds of Elkin, Leonard Reynolds of Jonesville and Cindy Simmons of Thurmond.

Mr. and Mrs. Steve Steele celebrate 50th anniversary

On Aug 24, 2013, John S. “Steve” and Kay Walker Steele celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a surprise dinner at the Brushy Mountain Smokehouse and Creamery. It was given by their sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher and Elaine Steele of North Wilkesboro and Todd and Sarah Steele of Garner.

The Steeles were married by the Rev. Clarence Eden at Moravian Falls Baptist Church on Sept. 1, 1963. With the exception of time spent in college and the United States Army, the Steeles have resided in Wilkes County. Mr. Steele, son of the late Jim and Margaret Steele of Greensboro and North Wilkesboro, is a retired self-employed licensed surveyor. Mrs. Steele, daughter of the late Bernard and Nora Walker of Moravian Falls, is a registered nurse and licensed electrologist.

The 50 guests included the members of their immediate families; as many of the original wedding party members as possible; the Rev. Phil and Sherry Stone of Wake County; the Rev. Steve Snipes; and Jim and Martha Phillips Philpott of Asheboro.

Mr. and Mrs. Benny Alexander celebrate 50th anniversary

Benny Samuel Alexander and Sue Blankenship Alexander celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 26, 2013, with a reception at the Wilkesboro Civic Center. The couple’s daughters gave the event.

Family and friends were served heavy hors d’oeuvres, a chocolate fountain and fruit, punch and a three-tiered wedding cake consisting of Italian cream, chocolate and strawberry layers. The cake was adorned with yellow roses and was topped with a 50th emblem and yellow roses. Decorations for the reception included photos of the couple’s wedding day, family photos taken over the past 50 years, and gold and fall accents.

Several out-of-town guests attended including Mr. Alexander’s brother, Paul Alexander of Center, Texas, and sister Judy (Bob) Slone of Greensboro and Mrs. Alexander’s sister, Stella (Ed) Roberts of Shelby. A very special guest was Bob Alexander, age 95, Mr. Alexander’s father.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Johnson celebrate 59th anniversary

Ernest and Juliann Johnson will celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary on Feb. 12, 2014.

The Johnsons have four children, Brenda, Dennis, Terry and Greg Johnson. They also have six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Johnson is retired from American Drew Furniture after 42 years of employment. He enjoys playing the fiddle and traveling to different places to play music. Mrs. Johnson retired from Avante after 17 years of employment and is a homemaker.

Rev. and Mrs. Wagoner celebrate anniversary

The Rev. Jerry and Brenda Wagoner recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

They were married Jan. 11, 1964 at 7 p.m., by the Rev. Fred Shore.

The Wagoners have four children, Vicky (Wil) Birdwell of Hamptonville, Lynn Wagoner of Wilkesboro, Dwight (Donna) Wagoner of North Wilkesboro and Beth (Van) Rivers of North Wilkesboro. They also have six grandchildren, Stephanie and Kayla Birdwell, David and Crystal Wagoner and Ethan and Evan Rivers and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Birdwell and Dallas Sigmon.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ellis celebrate 60th anniversary

Robert and Anna Lee Ellis of Fairplains Road, North Wilkesboro, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception in their honor on Dec. 28, 2013 from 2-4 p.m., in the fellowship hall of Mountain Valley Baptist Church.

Hosts for the event were their son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Ellis, along with other family members and friends of the honored couple.

Mr. and Mrs. Ellis are both retired from Basset-Walker.

Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Estep honored recently on 50th anniversary at Bethany Baptist Church

F.C. and Joyce Estep celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception in their  honor on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. at the Bethany Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

The couple was married on Nov. 28, 1963.

The Esteps have three children, Bryan Estep (wife Janet) of Moravian Falls, Paula Estep Curry (husband Scott) of Troutman and Crystal Estep Fisher (husband Kevin) of Statesboro, Ga. The couple has five grandchildren, Matthew Estep, Makayla Estep, Nick Curry, Elizabeth Curry and Haley Fisher.

Mr. and Mrs. Andy Lee Shore celebrate 50th anniversary

Andy Lee and Linda Carol Shepherd Shore will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013. They were married 50 years ago at the home of their pastor, the Rev. Muncie H. Absher in the Mulberry community on the birthday of both of Mrs. Shore’s grandfathers, James H. Shepherd and Mitchell A. Vannoy.

Mrs. Shore is the daughter of the late Malery B. and Ethel Vannoy Shepherd of the Reddies River community. She graduated from West Wilkes High School and Central Wesleyan College and taught third grade at Millers Creek Elementary School for 18 years until she was forced to take early retirement due to injuries received in an automobile accident.

Mr. Shore is the son of the late Anderson (Andy) Dailey Shore and Pauline West Shore of Caldwell County. He served in the National Guard, worked for a while in the furniture industry and retired from Roadway Express after a long career as a long distance truck driver. He received awards for driving over 3 million miles without an accident.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert MacRae celebrate 63rd anniversary

Robert B. and Mary E. MacRae of Lewis Fork Road, Ferguson, celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on Dec. 16, 2013.

The couple has two children, Robin Duff and husband, Grover, and Robert MacRae and wife, Joyce. They also have five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. MacRae were married Dec. 16, 1950 in Maryland.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul N. Shore Jr. celebrate 50th anniversary

Paul N. Shore Jr. and Brenda Chambers Shore celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception in their honor on Nov. 17, 2013, at Union Baptist Church CAC, Hamptonville. The event was given by family and friends.

The couple’s children are Kamela Hemric and family of Hamptonville, Derrick Shore and family of North Wilkesboro and Chad Shore and family, also of Hamptonville. They have eight grandchildren.

A Holland theme was carried out in the decorations using windmills, wooden shoes, Dutch boys and girls and tulip flower arrangements on the tables. The original 1963 Ford in which the Shores dated was parked outside the reception area. Mrs. Shore’s wedding dress, the garments she wore on her honeymoon and the suit in which Mr. Shore was married were on display, as well as a table of family photographs over the past 50 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Byrd celebrate 50th anniversary

On Dec. 1, 2013, Brenda and Jerry Byrd celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family luncheon at Cedarbrook Country Club, given by their daughter, Kim Dockery, son-in-law, Chuck, and granddaughter, Meredith.

Mr. and Mrs. Byrd reside in the Austin/Benham community. Both are retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company in Elkin. The Byrds are longtime members of Oak Level Baptist Church, where they were married on Sunday, Dec. 1, 1963, by the Rev. Cecil Hooper.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Williams will celebrate 60th wedding anniversary December 19

Richard and Betty Williams will celebrate their 60th anniversary on Dec. 19, 2013. They met at the Liberty Theater in April 1953 and were married Dec. 19, 1953, at the Wilkes County Courthouse.

The couple has three children, Rick Williams, Mary Kay Wright and Kathy Motsinger. They also have five grandchildren, Amanda Owens, Richie Williams, Dustin Wright, Emily Cox and Austin Motsinger, and two great-grandsons, Dylan Owens and Carter Cox.

Mr. Williams’ parents were the late Avery and Roxie Lankford Williams.
