The Catherine H Barber Memorial Shelter tries to provide a temporary overnight shelter to anyone who is homeless. We are open from 6:30pm - 6:30am to allow men and women to have a safe place to sleep at night and provide them with food, cleaning facilities, and advice on where to find employment or find housing. Sadly, we have a lot of individuals who are not clients of the "Homeless Shelter" who tend to hand out in this area. I was at the Shelter last night and found several individuals behind the house across the street from your house who we not clients of the shelter. I discussed this with your relatives at the house and discussed their options to help eliminate this problem. We occasionally have clients who get to the shelter too early or leave too late and have let our clients know that the homeless shelter must be a good neighbor if it is remain open even if is just at night. I also want to apologize for some trash that collected behind us during the recent cold spell. We did clean some wind blown trash and some trash that may have been caused by our clients just the day before we saw your post. Hopefully we can continue to be a good neighbor and provide shelter to those who are temporarily homeless.Thank you, Bud Smith
This homeless shelter has turned into a hangout for drunks and drug addicts. They are there all day long and, according to what I have always been told, they are supposed to leave the premises by 7 in the morning. I own a house next door and beer cans are being thrown into the yard, Wine bottles have been found under my house and needles have been found in my yard. I think this would be a wonderful resource if it is managed properly. I am tired of shady looking characters lurking around my house 24 hours a day. Either manage this property or close it down!
