WCC teacher wins second place

Wilkes Community College instructor Cinnamon Martin has won second place in the American Psychological Association's Teaching Tips Contest.
The Teaching Tips Contest is sponsored by the American Psychological Association's Psychology Teachers at Community Colleges Committee (PT@CC). It is part of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology of the American Psychological Association and the Education Directorate.
Community College Teachers who are members of the APA were invited by PT@CC to submit a teaching strategy regarding a psychological concept. Ms. Martin submitted a teaching activity that involves using children's toys to teach developmental concepts, an activity she uses in developmental psychology.
Ms. Martin will receive a cash prize and a framed award certificate, a WCC spokesman said.
The APA, based in Washington, D.C., is a scientific and professional organization that represents psychology in the United States. With 150,000 members, APA is the largest association of psychologists worldwide. The mission of the APA is to advance the creation, communication and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people's lives.
The mission of PT@CC is to represent community psychology teachers; promote, within the 2-year college community, the highest professional standards for teaching of psychology as a scientific discipline, with applications to a wide range of human concerns; cultivate a professional identity with the discipline of psychology among psychology teachers at 2-year colleges; develop leadership qualities among psychology teachers at 2-year colleges and increase their participation and representation in professional psychology activities and organizations; establish and maintain communication with all groups involved in the teaching of psychology and with the greater psychological community; and encourage psychological research on teaching and learning at 2-year colleges for the purpose of giving students the best possible educational opportunities. |
