Fourth racing event scheduled at speedway

Speedway Associates Inc. has announced plans for a fourth motorsports racing event at the North Wilkesboro Speedway.
   The first annual Historic North Wilkesboro Speedway Short Track Shootout Weekend is planned for Oct. 29-31.
   It will include a seven-race series of classes in one weekend, including a 150-lap Late Model Stock Car race, a 75-lap Limited Late Model race, a 75-lap United States Super Truck Series race, a 50-lap Street stock race, a 50-lap Rolling Thunder Modified race, a 40-lap UCAR Clash Series race and a 35-lap Allison Legacy Series race.
   “We want to develop this event for our present and future racers where they are able to showcase their talents in front of Historic NWS and the eyes upon it. Our loyal fans and competitors deserve this event and we are going to give it to them,” said Bosco Lowe, one of the partners in Speedway Associates.
   According to a news release, the weekend will feature a family fun atmosphere with an affordable admission price for three days of racing. Ticket prices haven’t yet been announced. Sponsorship opportunities are available, the release stated.
   The event will include trick or treating for kids in the pits with the race teams. More details will be announced later at www.historicnws.com and elsewhere regarding scheduling of events and related information.
   Also scheduled at the North Wilkesboro Speedway in 2010 are the:
   • USA Racing Pro Cup Championship Series race on Oct. 3;
   • ASA Late Model Series stock car race at the speedway on Nov. 6.
   The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) race event is scheduled for April 7, 8 and 9, 2011 at the speedway.
   The Buck Baker Racing School’s first weekend at the North Wilkesboro Speedway is scheduled for Feb. 20-21, announced officials with the school and Speedway Associates Inc. (SAI). The racing school will be open to the public all day Saturday, Feb. 20 and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21.
   Speedway Associates and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. recently announced that Goodyear had signed on as the presenting sponsor of the speedway. As part of the Presenting Sponsorship to North Wilkesboro Speedway, Goodyear was also named the “Presenting Sponsor of the North Wilkesboro Speedway/Goodyear Benevolent Fund.”
   Speedway Associates has a three-year lease contract for the speedway property that includes an option to purchase.
