Elmore announces run for N.C. Senate seat
by Staff
Jeffrey Elmore, a teacher and North Wilkesboro town commissioner, announced today that he will seek the N.C. Senate seat from the 45th District this year. Elmore is a Republican.
The seat is currently held by Steve Goss of Boone, a Democrat.
Elmore said, "Alexander, Ashe, Watauga and Wilkes counties are suffering from the recent downturn in the economy with some of the highest unemployment numbers in the state. Our citizens need jobs, and a sense of hope for our future. Instead, we see key Democratic leaders in Raleigh involved in corruption and many taking on the philosophy of taxing our way out of the problem.
"The people of our district need a clear vision for our future direction, and I am just the person for the job. I will work day and night to make sure that the common sense, conservative values seen in our mountain and foothills communities are represented and heard in Raleigh."
Elmore, a Wilkes native, was elected to the North Wilkesboro board of commissioners in 2007 and served on the town's planning board prior to his election. He currently represents North Wilkesboro on the Blue Ridge Opportunity Commission (BROC) board of directors, an entity that serves underprivileged and elderly in Ashe, Alleghany, and Wilkes counties.
An Appalachian Sate University graduate, Elmore is a teacher at North Wilkes Middle School and was Wilkes County's "teacher of the year" in the 2005-2006 academic year. He is currently serving as president of Professional Educators of North Carolina (PENC), a non-partisan professional organization for educators based in Raleigh. Elmore and his wife, Kara, have twin sons, Carter and Campbell. |
