Little Miss Princess contestants sought

The Wilkes Community Action Committee (WCAC), a supportive arm of BROC, each year sponsors the "Little Miss Princess" Pageant. Contrary to expectations, it's not pretty faces and talent but rather about care, the inner beauty.
The event committee is now taking applications for the "Little Miss Princess" pageant in which young people compete to raise the most money to support low-income projects in Wilkes County. These funds are used to provide emergency electric, rental assistance, and emergency food.
The program is open to female contestants, ages 3 to 7 years old. A $1,000 scholarship is awarded to the winner, if at least $1,000 is raised by the contestant. Each contestant will receive a trophy and prizes for her efforts and involvement.
Contestants are sponsored by parents, friends, relatives, and churches or clubs by selling raffle tickets, holding bake sales, car washes, doughnut sales and yard sales. The contestant who raises the most funds is revealed on the night of the pageant. Parents, family or friends who care enough to make a commitment to give of his/her time and talents can reach their goal.
Each contestant's fundraising totals will be kept secret until the winner is crowned on Friday night, July 24, at Stone Family Center for Performing Arts.
The event is held in conjunction with the "Miss CAG" pagent, sponsored by the Wilkes Community Action Group.
The reigning 2008 "Little Miss Princess" is Hailey Morgan Peacock. She is the daughter of Michael and Jessica Prevette. Her parents, her grandparents, friends and neighbors raised $6,576.90. The first runner-up was Elizabeth Martin, who raised $2,708.94.
The "Little Miss Princess" pageant allows young people to have fun and raise money to support low-income projects in Wilkes County. It is designed to encourage young people to become more active in learning about being a volunteer, because they are our future. All of us have a role in helping to "make a difference."
Through the volunteer work of the volunteers for "Miss CAG" and the "Little Miss Princess" contestants. and with grants, BROC has assisted over 4,028 low-income families in the past year by providing emergency food, fuel assistance, preventing being evicted from their homes, prevented disconnection of power and prescription assistance.
Anyone who is interested in becoming a contestant or sponsoring someone should call Jessica Nelson, Jennifer Cooper-White or Dare Stromer at 667-7l74.
Anyone interested in sending a donation to meet the needs of low-income citizens of Wilkes County (elderly, dislocated workers, individuals and families) can send donations to BROC, Attention: Wilkes Community Action Committee, 710 Beech Street, North Wilkesboro, N.C. 28659.
